$75,000 Donation Supports Nationwide Hunger Relief

Sharing Excess and Foxwynd Foundation Partner to Fund Critical Food-Rescue Technology and General Operations

Philadelphia, PA, 12/3/2025, The Foxwynd Foundation, through its Donor Advised Fund (DAF), has awarded a $75,000 grant to Sharing Excess, a national nonprofit committed to reducing food waste and alleviating food insecurity. The funds will strengthen the organization’s technology infrastructure and general operations, enabling it to expand its food‑rescue services and deepen its impact across the United States."

Bridging Surplus Food to Communities in Need
Since its founding in 2017, Sharing Excess has built a nationwide network that rescues surplus food from retailers, wholesalers, farms, and restaurants before it goes to waste and redistributes it to food banks, mutual aid groups, shelters, campus pantries, and other community organizations.

Today, Sharing Excess operates in dozens of states, delivering millions of pounds of rescued food each week, and working with a broad network of donors and distribution partners.

Impact of the Gift
With the $75,000 grant from Foxwynd Foundation, the organization plans to:

  • Upgrade and maintain Sharing Excess’s proprietary logistics technology (including routing software, real-time dispatch systems, and data tracking) which is critical for coordinating pickups and deliveries across multiple states.
  • Increase capacity to accept and redirect more surplus food, helping more individuals and families in communities facing food insecurity.
  • Expand core capacity such as staffing, refrigerated transportation, and sorting/distribution logistics.

This contribution enhances Sharing Excess’s ability to scale its impact, making it easier for surplus food to make its way from businesses to hungry communities, not landfills.

A Shared Vision for Sustainability and Food Equity
“Food shouldn’t go to waste, and no one should go hungry in our region when there’s so much surplus to capture,” said Evan Ehlers, Founder and Executive Director of Sharing Excess. “This generous support from Foxwynd Foundation empowers us to strengthen our infrastructure and deliver even more meals to families in need.”

“The Sharing Excess mission and organization truly resonates with all of us at Foxwynd Foundation. We see their approach as a rare triple win: addressing food insecurity for those most in need, reducing inefficiencies and waste in the food supply chain, and leveraging technology to make the whole process sustainable and scalable. We have quickly become enthusiastic champions of Sharing Excess and are excited to help them expand their scope with this grant,” said Keith Bentley, Trustee, Foxwynd Foundation.
